PAST: A New Erasmus+ Project Connecting History and STEAM Education
October 2025 – The Erasmus+ project PAST – Pathways Across STEAM and Time: Where History Meets STEAM has officially started, bringing together seven organisations from Lithuania, Poland, Italy and Serbia to promote innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to secondary school education.

The three-year project aims to bridge the gap between traditional History education and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), supporting teachers in developing engaging learning experiences that connect historical events with scientific discoveries, technological developments and contemporary challenges.

Innovative Teaching and Learning

History and STEAM subjects are often taught separately, despite their many connections. PAST aims to overcome these boundaries by encouraging teachers to adopt interdisciplinary methodologies that help students understand how scientific and technological innovations have influenced societies throughout history.

The project primarily targets secondary school teachers and students aged 15–18, promoting critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving and digital competences.

Project Activities and Expected Results

Over its 36-month implementation period, PAST will develop a range of educational resources and activities, including:

  • Research and curriculum analysis to identify connections between History and STEAM subjects across participating countries.
  • Educational frameworks and recommendations to support interdisciplinary teaching.
  • Training modules and teaching scenarios providing teachers with practical methodologies and classroom resources.
  • Teacher training and school pilot activities to test and improve the developed approaches.
  • Dissemination activities and multiplier events to share project results with schools, educators and educational stakeholders across Europe.

The project resources will be made openly accessible to encourage their use and adaptation in different educational contexts.

A European Partnership

PAST is coordinated by Kauno Stepono Dariaus ir Stasio Girėno gimnazija (Lithuania) and involves six partner organisations:

  • Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania)
  • Centre for Education and Entrepreneurship Support – CWEP (Poland)
  • Digital Research & Communication – DRC (Italy)
  • Minds Europe Institute (Serbia)
  • Gimnazija Smart (Serbia)
  • Secondary School with Lithuanian Teaching Language of 11 March in Puńsk (Poland)

By combining expertise in education, research, digital technologies and teacher training, the partnership aims to develop practical and transferable approaches that strengthen interdisciplinary learning in European secondary schools.

Looking Ahead

Through international cooperation and the development of innovative educational resources, PAST will support teachers in connecting historical knowledge with scientific and technological perspectives, making learning more relevant, interactive and engaging.

The project will run from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2028, contributing to the exchange of educational practices and the development of new opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching across Europe.
